The Wood Axe is a Melee Weapon added in the 0.5.0 "Air drop it like it's hot" update on July 26, 2018. Found mostly in Stumps, this melee weapon deals 36 damage to enemies and Obstacles - 150% more than your Fists, which is enough to defeat an unarmored opponent in three hits. Once equipped, it will occupy your third weapon slot. Because the Wood Axe deals more damage than Fists, it can be considered a direct upgrade to it. Unlike Fists, the Wood Axe is still relevant and a viable weapon after the first few minutes. The Wood Axe also has a slightly larger range than fists and destroys containers and trees faster as well. It, the Katana, the Naginata, and the Stone Hammer are the only weapons able to break open armored Ammo Crates.
Wood Axe Bloodstained
The Wood Axe Bloodstained can be found exclusively in the Cabin on a Wall Mount. It is found in 10 of 121 Cabins and is green with a giant blood stain on the blade. It can also be found from Potatoes or from a modified Stump. It has the same stats as the Wood Axe and the look is cosmetic. It goes well with Ranger.

Rarity
The Wood Axe is a very common weapon, spawning in a Stump, inside a Cabin on the Wall Mount, or in the Crossing Bunker. At least one (and often more than two) will spawn each game.
Countering
- The Wood Axe's range is a Melee Weapon, meaning it has a very short range. Staying out of this range will ensure safety from the Wood Axe.
- Use a non-melee weapon, such as an SMG or Assault Rifle at mid-range and a Shotgun if you are closer to them.
- Most other melee weapons outclass the Wood Axe, so engaging in melee combat against this weapon is not too dangerous.
- With good armor, the Wood Axe deals very little damage.
Trivia
- It is one of the first Melee Weapons added.
- It does 69.12 damage to Obstacles.
- This is the most common melee weapon that deals more than 24 damage/hit.
