Emotes are icons that appear on top of a player when using the right-click button. There are two types of emotes; regular and Team Pings. There are a wide variety of emotes that users can use, but only a choice of four could be used at once.
The v0.2.6 "Home invasion" update adds customization for your emotes, including for when you die and when you win. The emotes can be customized by clicking the on the main menu.
To change the type of emotes that a player can use, the player goes to the Loadout menu, then click the Happy Face tab. Then they can click on emotes they have and drag them into the any one of the four slots. Emotes may be put in more than one slot, which means that an emote inventory can consist of one emote.
All Emotes
Below are the default regular pings that players can access by simply right-clicking and hovering over an emote. These can be swapped for more icons.

Team Ping Emotes
Team Ping Emotes can be accessed by holding C and using the right-click interface. This cannot be customized, and some are disabled in solo mode. The main purpose of these emotes are to communicate needs and alerts that a team may need to address immediately.
For an unknown reason, "The Eye" emote doesn't use the pentagonal symbol as the Bunker of the same name.
During the Rotato Potato event, all emotes (including ammo and consumables) are replaced by a Potato, leading to a communication problem.
However, team pings are still the same which still lets you to coordinate your team.
In the Twitch version, you have access to all emotes that were present at the update.
For the flag of Latvia, it shows the flag of Azerbaijan. This is likely an oversight.
You can hear the sound of emoting without any sound falloff so long as the emoting player is within (or very close to the edge of) the bounds of your screen. Emoting can even be heard from people hidden in buildings when approaching from outside, even though the emote itself cannot be seen. This is most notably observed with high-powered Scopes, as they increase your field of view.
