The explosion of a Potato fired by the Potato Cannon

The Potato Cannon, officially designated as the PPP-7 (Probably Propelled Potato) is a Launcher added in the v0.7.8 "Your tuber is here" update on June 7, 2019. It uses Potato Ammo, and has infinite ammunition.

Update note

"PARMA's FSTMS division proudly presents the Potato Cannon.

Officially designated the PPP-7 (Probably Propelled Potato), the potato cannon is truly the pinnacle of starch-based modern warfare. The potatoes it fires are packed with nutrients ... and a nuclear warhead! Each potato cannon also comes with a handy tuber replication device."

Summary

It uses brown Potato Ammo (Infinite) and has a capacity of 4 rounds. It slows the Player down dramatically when held. It fires potatoes that explode upon impact (or after they have traveled a certain range), dealing very high damage per potato.

It cannot be found by destroying Potatoes or being swapped for Potatoes. It is only found in the Red Emblem Case in the Crimson Ring Club and Golden Air Drops.

Strategies

Using

  • Because it is rare, attempt to hide it most of the time so that other Players do not know you have it.
  • Reload the Potato Cannon whenever you are not fighting your opponents.
  • Do not attempt to rush while holding the Potato Cannon; it slows you down much more than other weapons. Instead, switch to a different gun (or your Fists), and once you are close enough, switch back to the Potato Cannon.
  • The Potato Cannon can be Quickswitched like a Sniper Rifle. However, don't do this if you enjoy not being reported.
  • The Potato Cannon is a viable weapon at almost all times. It will not be swapped by rotation, and the explosive Potatoes do the Potato effect too. Get many throwable Potatoes, and you can win easily by slowing and weakening the opponents with Potatoes and finishing them with the Cannon. It can also be used as bait to lure in players and killing them once they get near it or pick it up.
  • Feel free to destroy faraway obstacles with the Potato Cannon in late-game. It will not be swapped away by rotation, and clearing the obstacles with it means you have an empty battlefield that you can throw Potatoes without any problems.
  • Since this Cannon is explosive, do not use it to clear obstacles close to you even though the ammo supply is infinite. Doing so will damage or even get yourself killed.
  • The potatoes that the Potato Cannon fires are large and with a big hitbox, making them hard to avoid.
  • If the player you're fighting hides behind an Obstacle, such as a Stone or Tree, shoot the obstacle. If they're close enough to it, the explosion will still damage them. If they are too far away, you'll still be able to clear the obstacle out of the way.
  • When the Potato Cannon hits a player, they will be slowed, which will prevent the player from escaping.
  • When possible, try to aim at Barrels. The Cannon deals enough damage, and the barrel explosion will catch the other player by surprise.
  • Use the Potato Cannon to shoot at Potatoes if you are looking for a Perk. The Potato Cannon won’t swap, and the potato might drop a Perk.
  • Combined with the Mosin Nagant/any hard hitting rifle, this gun makes for one of the best weapon duos when quickswitched, Almost always instant killing your opponent, and if not still dealing massive damage.

Countering

  • Find at least an Obstacle so that the Potato will end up exploding there.
    • Do not stand close to the obstacle between you and the shooter, as the explosion will go through the obstacle.
  • Do not even attempt standing still and healing while countering the Potato Cannon; it can kill you in almost no time.
  • If you want to defeat the shooter rather than run away, get close to the opponent, and use a high DPS weapon to out-damage the Potato Cannon. MP220 with Vector (.45 ACP) is recommended.
  • Take advantage of the slow speed while being wielded and the slow rate of fire to attack the shooter.
  • A good way to counter the Potato Cannon is by taking a good Sniper Rifle like a Mosin-Nagant or SV-98 and quickly shooting, switching, and hiding behind an unbreakable obstacle, a silo, or an obstacle that has a lot of hit damage.
  • The potatoes the Potato Cannon fires have a very low velocity, making avoiding it easier by keeping a distance.
  • Whenever they shoot, immediately switch directions. This will allow you to avoid most, if not all, of their shots. Most players won't catch on to this tactic, or if they do, it will most likely be too late. It will give you plenty of time to take them down with another weapon.

Trivia

  • It, FAMAS, Groza, and Groza-S are the only guns that the hand doesn't grab into the stock.
  • It formerly dealt 99 damage. This was later nerfed to 95.
  • It was also the 3rd gun to use its unique ammo, after the DEagle 50 and Flare Gun.
    • However, the Spud Gun was introduced in v0.8.82 "Free Fryer" update, also using Potato Ammo.
    • The ammo supply is infinite, so it will not run out of it.
  • It has a switch delay of 0.9 seconds like the M870 and the M1100. These three guns also share single reloading.
  • The Potato Cannon is the 2nd of 3 weapons that fire explosive shots, after the USAS-12, and before the M79.
  • The Potato Cannon and Spud Gun are the only weapons that do not spawn ammo when dropped.
  • The Potatoes shot out from the gun count as Throwables, allowing you to complete the Quests for throwables with ease.
  • The Potato Cannon is one of 3 weapons that cannot be acquired from destroying potatoes, the other 2 being the M79 and the Spud Gun.
    • Similarly, it is the only weapon with the Spud Gun, M9 Cursed and Bugle that cannot be obtained by potato weapon swaps.
  • It is currently the fifth weapon in the game that doesn't exist in real life aside (its design and its explosive potatoes, although potato cannons with explosive projectiles have been made), with the OT-38 being first (OTs-38 is the real-life version). This doesn't include the other suppressed weapons since they are too similar to the original weapon.
  • The Potato Cannon is "the first prototype of weaponized tubers" as proved in the update note.
  • The Potato Cannon resembles an RPG-7 without its breech.
    • This would make the recoil so tremendous it would be borderline unusable.
  • The Potato Cannon closely resembles a real combustion Potato Cannon, although the chamber to barrel ratio would not be the ideal 1.5:1.
  • There is a 100% guarantee that you will get a Potato Cannon from a golden Air Drop in Potato mode.
  • The real-life Potato Cannon shoots out projectiles at high velocity, and its projectiles may be potatoes.
  • Like the AWM-S, .308 Subsonic, and the M79, the Potato Cannon had exclusive ammunition. Like the Mk 20 SSR, the Spud Gun was introduced, making the Potato Ammo no longer exclusive for the Potato Cannon.
  • Along with other Launchers, it is held at the side of the Survivr instead of being in the middle.
  • The Potato Cannon has all of its similarities to the Heart Cannon.
    • Only visual difference is the icon on the middle of the sprite (hexagon for Potato Cannon, heart for Heart Cannon) and the world image.
